Game is Hard is a free puzzle game by Unico Studio for Android and iPhone. Every level looks simple, just a short line of text and a few shapes, but the obvious move almost never works.

What you see
“the square has no value.” above three shape sums: square + 2X = pentagon, ball + square = X, and X + ball = ?

Level 208 is a little algebra puzzle with shapes. The picture shows the pentagon moved onto the question mark. Want to solve it yourself? Open the hints one at a time first.

Solution
  1. Square is zeroIf the square is worth nothing, the second line becomes ball = X.
  2. Work out the questionSo X + ball is the same as X + X, which is 2X.
  3. Find 2XThe first line says square + 2X = pentagon, so the pentagon is 2X. Drag the pentagon onto the question mark.
Why it worksWith the square at zero, every line simplifies: the ball equals X and the pentagon equals 2X. The question adds X and a ball, which makes 2X, the pentagon.
