Game is Hard is a free puzzle game by Unico Studio for Android and iPhone. Every level looks simple, just a short line of text and a few shapes, but the obvious move almost never works.

To win you might need to tilt your phone, shake it, turn the volume up, or read the question very literally. There are 300 levels, a Master Challenge mode with fresh twists on the hardest puzzles, and it plays offline in 20 languages.

Level 174 is an addition puzzle shaped like a tree. The picture shows every number in its place. Want to solve it yourself? Open the hints one at a time first.

Follow the arrows upwards and add.

The smallest number belongs right under the 5.
Every number in place: 1, 3, 3 in the middle row and 2, 2, 5 along the bottom.
Solution
  1. How the tree adds upEach big number at the top is the total of everything that flows up into it along the arrows.
  2. Fill the middle rowPut 1 in the dot under the 5, and a 3 in each of the dots under the 7 and the 10.
  3. Fill the bottom rowPut 2 in the bottom-left dot, 2 in the bottom-middle dot and 5 in the bottom-right dot.
Why it worksThe two left bottom dots meet before splitting, so their 2 + 2 = 4 feeds both the 5 (4 + 1) and the 7 (4 + 3). The 10 collects the middle 2, its own 3 and the 5 on the right.
