Game is Hard is a free puzzle game by Unico Studio for Android and iPhone. Every level looks simple, just a short line of text and a few shapes, but the obvious move almost never works.

To win you might need to tilt your phone, shake it, turn the volume up, or read the question very literally. There are 300 levels, a Master Challenge mode with fresh twists on the hardest puzzles, and it plays offline in 20 languages.

What you see
“complete the mechanism.” with a big green 8 in the middle and six shapes on spokes around it: a triangle, a square and a pentagon, plus three pale green balls.

Level 209 is a balancing puzzle. The picture shows the finished mechanism; the pale shapes are the ones you changed. Want to solve it yourself? Open the hints one at a time first.

Count corners, then look across the middle.
Triangle opposite pentagon and square opposite square: every line through the middle adds up to 8.
Solution
  1. Tap to changeTap a pale green shape to change it into another shape.
  2. Count the cornersEach shape is worth its number of corners: triangle 3, square 4, pentagon 5.
  3. Opposites make 8Each pair of opposite shapes must add up to 8. Top-left becomes a triangle (opposite the pentagon), bottom-left becomes a square (opposite the square), and the right one becomes a pentagon (opposite the triangle).
Why it worksThe 8 in the middle is the target for every straight line through it. 3 + 5 and 4 + 4 are the only ways to make 8 with these shapes.
